AN UPDATE FROM MRS.HALL
June 20, 2017
Dear Families, Happy summer everyone! Here we are at the end of the year. Invariably the end of the year always catches me off guard. We’ve been so embroiled in projects that I haven’t even had a chance to think about having to say goodbye to your child. It has been a busy, productive and super fun year. Tomorrow we celebrate the end with our special BIOGRAPHY WAX MUSEUM night. The kids are SO excited about their presentations to you. This project is a perfect culmination of reading, writing, researching, speaking, and social studies! You will be amazed and delighted at your child. 😊 He/she spent a couple weeks studying biography as a genre before diving into multiple resources on one particular person of his/her choice. Then they spent weeks reading from their resources and taking down dash facts about the person’s early and adult life, working hard to distill the most important details from extraneous and keeping track of the chronological order of events. Finally, each child wrote a short synopsis of the person’s life but in the first person. They have each painted their own backdrop, have rehearsed their scripts, and are ready to go. SEE YOU TOMORROW NIGHT AT 5-6:30! We will be in the EAST WING! Please bring your child in his/her costume with any props he/she would like to use. We have been slowly cleaning out our work bins here at school. You will see a bunch of math coming home. We have been working on fractions, perimeter, geometry, and data and statistics. You will see your child’s spelling book with the end-of-the-year spelling assessment stapled to the front of it. Various journals, logs, and “word work” (grammar and phonics) will be in there as well. Finally, your child’s red writing binder will come home, full of quick writes, short persuasive pieces, daily reflections, fictional pieces, and narratives. Most recently the rough draft of your child’s research went in. We had a blast at Field Day today. It was nice and hot – perfect weather for getting soaked during water relay races. 😊 Friday is our last day. It is a half day. The parent portal for progress reports does not open until the following Monday at 4 p.m. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow night. Thank you so much for helping your child get his/her costume ready. Best, Trish Hall |
